For this four-hour experience, we meet at Dru Point Bicentennial Reserve in Margate, where you’ll engage in a learning experience that focuses on practical know-how for bird photography, with minimal tech jargon. The session begins with an overview, including essential camera familiarisation to ensure you’re comfortable with your gear and explore camera settings best suited to photographing birds. We'll then head off for a walk so you can photograph a variety of birds from small forest species like wrens and robins to larger birds like wattlebirds and parrots, as well as raptors, waterbirds, and shorebirds. Throughout, you’ll receive personalised guidance on exposure, shooting modes, focus techniques, composition and capturing birds in flight – one of the trickiest aspects of bird photography. While focusing on achieving sharp, clear images, you’ll also learn about different bird species and some key things to watch for when photographing them in their natural habitat. By the end of the session, you’ll feel more confident in selecting your camera settings, with tips on customising your camera modes and menus, for quicker, easier adjustments in the field.
