Develop your understanding of photography and how the foundational settings you’ll learn apply to bird photography in the field. This beginner-friendly bird photography workshop is a practical, hands-on learning experience, presented in a light-hearted, easy-learning way. You’ll be encouraged to ask questions, experiment with settings and learn through doing. The workshop unfolds gradually, helping you to make sense of core photography principles and how they apply specifically to photographing birds. Rather than rushing through technical detail, the focus is on building confidence and making more informed choices in the field. You’ll be guided through photography concepts including camera navigation, shooting modes and key exposure settings, all explained clearly and in context. As the session progresses, you’ll explore how you can apply these foundations to common bird photography situations such as perched birds, birds in flight and changing light conditions. The aim is not to overwhelm, but to help you move away from guesswork or presets and toward photographing birds with greater intention and confidence. This workshop is well suited to those who are new to photography, as well as those who have been using their camera for some time and would like a refresher on the foundations of photography as they apply to bird photography. It’s designed to build confidence with your camera and key photographic principles, without unnecessary complexity or technical jargon. If you already have a solid understanding of exposure and camera settings and are looking to refine and practise bird photography skills in a more fluid, on-the-go format, our Bird photography beyond the basics walkabout may be a better fit.
Payment, Amendments and Cancellation
Experience-specific terms and conditions – SMALL GROUP WORKSHOPS Deposit and Final Payment Full payment is required at the time of booking; payment is accepted via credit card or bank transfer. Minimum group size Our small group workshops require a minimum number of participants to proceed. If this number is not reached, the workshop may be cancelled or rescheduled. We will confirm this no later than 10 days before the scheduled date. If we cancel or reschedule the workshop, you’ll receive a full refund or have the option to transfer your booking to another date or experience at no additional cost. AMENDMENTS & CANCELLATIONS to bookings for small group workshops If you AMEND your booking • You may reschedule to a later date or transfer to another Shutterbug Walkabouts experience at any time up to and including 15 days before your booked date at no additional cost. • If you reschedule your booking between 14 days and 72 hours before the scheduled start time, or transfer to a different workshop or experience, a fee of 20% of the participation fee will apply. The remaining balance will be transferred to the new workshop date or experience as a deposit. Any difference in price must be paid, and the booking terms and conditions will reset with the new booking. • Within 72 hours of the scheduled start time, rescheduling or transfer is not available and the no refund cancellation policy applies. If you CANCEL your booking: • 15 or more days’ notice – a fee of 20% of the participation fee will apply.
