Bird photography for beginners
An experiential workshop for photographing birds in their natural habitat.

A Snapshot of this Experience
This bird photography workshop is a practical learning workshop designed for beginners and early-stage photographers who would like to photograph birds with more confidence and intention. Set in the bird-rich parkland and coastal habitat at Dru Point in Margate, south of Hobart, you will be guided through: • common photography terminology and concepts, explained clearly and in context • the three key exposure settings and how they work together • semi-manual and manual camera modes and how to use them with confidence • interpreting and responding to changing light in the field • settings and techniques for birds in different situations, such as perched, in flight or in shadow • making confident setting choices in the field for the image you wish to achieve • image review and troubleshooting – identifying exposure, focus and timing issues and how to correct them The aim is not to overwhelm with technical detail, but to help things click so you can make thoughtful decisions in the field rather than relying on guesswork or presets. This workshop is well suited to: • people who are new to photography and want a clear, supportive introduction to photographing birds • photographers who already understand some basics but have not yet explored bird photography in depth or would like to strengthen their foundations • anyone who would like a refresher on the core foundations of bird photography •◊•◊•◊•◊•◊•◊•◊•◊•◊•◊•◊•◊•◊•◊•◊•◊•◊•◊•◊• DURATION: 6 hours, including a 1-hour lunch break.
