Adobe's 20GB Photography Plan: Avoid paying more than you need

May 5

3 min read

If you haven't heard yet, Adobe's Photography plan with 20GB of cloud storage is no longer available to new subscribers. It was discontinued from 15th January 2025. Existing subscribers however, can keep this plan and continue to pay monthly, just so long as they pay AUD $23.99/mth - up from $14.29/mth. Now that's quite a price hike, isn't it?

Are you subscribed to this plan? Have you received this email from Adobe yet?

If haven't received it yet, it may be because the price increase only takes effect from the annual anniversary of your subscription, which relates to the date you originally signed up. Adobe will send an email to you a month before your subscription is due for renewal.

Expect to receive this email about a month before the renewal date of your subscription.

If you do nothing and just let Adobe automatically renew your subscription as it is, you'll simply pay AUD $23.99/mth.

Alternatively, cancel your subscription any time, they say.

What's interesting here is that Adobe provide no clear information or instructions about other available options, and unless you go looking for alternatives, you may think your hands are tied.

But there is another way!

You can keep the same 20GB plan without the full price increase.

How?

Switch to an annual prepaid subscription for AUD $191.93/yr paid upfront. This equates to $15.99/month. OK, so this may not be for everyone, but if you can manage it, it's definitely worth considering. Be sure to act on this before your subscription auto-renewal rolls around or you'll miss out.

Also, I've seen mentioned that there's no certainty around how long this annual prepaid subscription will remain available.

Important note

If you cancel your existing subscription – Photography Plan with 20GB cloud storage – you will NEVER be able to get it back! This plan has been grandfathered and is no longer listed as an available plan, so keep this in mind when deciding what you will do next.

How to access this annual prepaid subscription?

If you have received the renewal email, be sure to update your subscription before the renewal due date. My understanding is that if you don't, this option will not be available after your subscription renews on the monthly subscription option (i.e. at $23.99/mth).

If you haven't yet received the renewal email, you can wait until your renewal email arrives if you wish, or act on it anytime from now. Just know the way to action it will be different... see below.

Something else worth mentioning too... in my research, I've seen it mentioned that no-one seems to know how long this annual prepaid subscription will remain available.

Will Adobe leave it as an option to existing subscribers until all have had the chance to update their subscription? Meaning all renewing subscriptions up to and including 14th January 2026 will have access? Or not? Who knows! We can only hope they do, but only you can decide when it's time for you to consider your options.

"I have received my renewal email from Adobe"

This means your subscription is due for renewal within the next 30 days - the date will be noted in the email.

  1. Log into your Adobe account

  2. Look for the banner in the 'Overview' section

  3. Click 'Update subscription' and follow the prompts - it's easy.

"I haven't received an email from Adobe"

You may wish to find our when your subscription is up for renewal and decide if you take action now or wait for the email to arrive, noting what I said earlier about there doesn't seem to be any information out there to say how long the annual prepaid subscription option will be available to current subscribers.

  1. Log into your Adobe account

  2. Select Plans and payment in the menu at the top of the page.

  3. Click on 'Manage Plan' - on the left you'll see the date you originally subscribed. Adobe will send an email 30 days before this date.

  4. If you wish, you can action now and 'Update subscription' and follow the prompts - it's easy. '

What happens next?

Your plan is now updated to the new annual subscription and renewable every 12 months from the date updated. Depending on the date of your most recent monthly subscription payment, you may receive a credit refund that equates to the remaining period left between when you update your subscription and when the next payment would ordinarily be due. You will receive emails confirming all these actions.
